Funeral services at Leavitt Funeral Home in Wadesboro, NC...interment followed in Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery in McFarlan.
Martha was born in Mecklenburg County, the youngest of 10 children to Latta H. and Lula Bumgardner Painter. She graduated from Queens College and married Thomas C. Garris, Jr. in 1950. She then worked for what would later become Duke Power for 25 years. She was a member of Pritchard Memorial Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir.
Following retirement, she and Tom moved to McFarlan to enjoy a slower pace of life. After Tom's death in 2001, Martha returned to live in Charlotte.
She was survived by a brother and sister (Ed Painter & Eula Ferguson, now deceased) and nieces and nephews.
