Nancy Jean Norton Loyd

Died: March 15, 2009

Nancy Jean Norton Loyd, 90, of Telford, died Sunday following a brief illness.

She was born Nov. 1, 1918, in Flag Pond, and was a daughter of the late Jesse and Mary Jane Norton.

Mrs. Loyd was raised in Madison County, N.C., and attended school at Dorland-Bell in Hot Springs, N.C.

She married and moved to Telford, where she had lived since 1942.

During that time she was employed at The Magnavox Company, Moody Dunbar Inc. (Pepper Mill) and Plus Mark Inc.

Mrs. Loyd was a member of the Jonesborough Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.

Her family noted "She was a hard worker and farmer and a character to all who met her."

Survivors include her second husband: Robert Loyd; her daughter: Carolyn McCloud; her oldest grandson: Timothy McCloud; two sisters: Sylvia Norton and Charity Henderson; a special brother-in-law: George Griffin; several nieces and nephews, including three special nephews: Danny Lee Norton and his wife, Margaret, Grady Norton and his wife, Carol, and Dave Metcalf and his wife, Bertha Marie, and two special nieces: Eva Griffin and Cindy Griffin; and a special great-great nephew: Dylan Norton.

She was preceded in death by her first husband: Grady Hensley; her youngest grandson: Jeremiah David McCloud; six brothers: Sonny Norton, Robbie Norton, Henry Norton, Matthew Norton, Jim Norton, and Cloyd Norton; and three sisters: Arthie Norton, Bertie Mae Metcalf, and Alpha Griffin.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home.

The funeral service will follow visitation at 8 o'clock in the funeral home chapel. Gary Gay will officiate.

A committal service will be held at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon at the family farm in Telford. Family and friends will meet 1:45 at the farm and will serve as pallbearers.

Honorary pallbearers will be the staff of Signature HealthCARE and Jamie and Barbara with the Johnson City Medical Center.
