He was born on March 3, 1934, to Ernest S. Hakey and Lillian Devoid in the town of Grafton, Vermont.
He joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1953, and served a tour of duty in Korea.
He was predeceased by his parents, three sisters, and four brothers. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Betty G. Barber Hakey; four sons; three daughters-in-law; a grandson, and five granddaughters; a younger brother, Bertie and wife, Rita; and half-brother, Hartwell Bowers and wife, Irene.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Paralyzed Veterans of America located in Wilton, NH.
Services will be private.
