Captain Roger Hodgen, a Quaker, was from Cumberland or Worcester Co's, England and was born about 1652. His wife’s Christian name was “Hester” and she was supposed to have been from Holland? They settled possibly in Salem Co., New Jersey for awhile? He was a sea captain and sailed between the Barbados and then New York. Eventually the family settled in Philadelphia Co., Pennsylvania. Later some of the family settled in Bucks Co., Pennsylvania whereas a great number of Quaker families settled.

Reference: "Notes on Larue, Hodgen, Keith, Harned, Irwin and Related Families" The William and Mary Quarterly Vol. 20, No. 2,(Labeled issue 1) (Oct., 1911), pp. 101-114

General Notes: In the book “Six Generations of La Rues and Allied Families” by Otis M. Mather, page 113, it mentions that Robert Hodgen "was the son of an Englishman, who married a Dutchwoman, and he was a sea Captain"? I don’t believe this is the case; rather it seems that they were the great-grandparents of Robert Hodgen 1742-1810? It has been suggested that the Hodgen family settled in Philadelphia Co. Pennsylvania, as Philadelphia was a very well known seaport?
