Second given name said to be Lawrence. Evidently son of Nicholas & Judith (CAMPBELL) HOWARD. Married 05 AUG 1841 in Russell County, Alabama, to Elizabeth ABERCROMBIE, said to be daughter of Anderson ABERCROMBIE (1786-1867) & Sidney GRIMES.

Nicholas L. HOWARD was evidently a judge on the Inferior Court at the time of his death and had served several terms as judge in the County Court.

The 1870 census of Muscogee County, Georgia, shows : Nicholas HOWARD (aged 55 years in Georgia, lawyer holding real estate valued at $10,000 & personal estate valued at $1,200), Elizabeth (49 AL) and presumably their children (all born in Georgia): Anna (23), John (22, life insurance agent), Anderson (20), Julia (17, at school), Sallie (14), Josephine (12), Augustus (10), & Florida (11); also two Black servants, Julia PITTS (50 GA, a cook) and Emma PITTS (16 GA, a nurse).

Mary Jane Galer's list of persons interred in the New Cemetery area of Linwood shows: N. L. HOWARD died aged 61 years; buried 23 JUL 1877 in Section 1, Lot 193 - Sexton Abraham ODOM.
