Having actually gone "Missing" on the above date, he was not officially declared by the military as being dead until March 15, 1946.

Son of Percy D. Stone who resided in Hartford, Connecticut.

Richard served as a Technical Sergeant & Radio Operator on B-24J #44-40933, 370th Bomber Squadron, 307th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Hartford County, Connecticut prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on December 29, 1942 in Hartford, Connecticut. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a routemen and also as Single, without dependents.

B-24J #44-40933 left Kurnasoren Airfield on a bombing mission to Balikpapan on the island of Borneo. After completion of the bombing mission, #44-40933 was attacked by Japanese aircraft and shot down and were believed to have crashed at sea.

Richard was declared "Missing In Action" in this attack during the war.

He was awarded the Air Medal with 5 Oak Leaf Clusters and the Purple Heart.
