Daniel Jason Higgins, 39, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Nov. 6, 2016.

He was preceded in death by his second mother, Janie Higgins; and grandparents, Fred and Flora Strickland, and Pete and Louise Higgins.

Daniel is survived by his daughter, Isabel Higgins, of Italy; father, Daniel Higgins, of Waynesville; mother, Patricia Ann Strickland, of Clewiston, Florida; two brothers, Gary Davis, of Orlando, Florida, and Jason Browning, of Charlotte; four sisters, Louise Higgins, of Waynesville, Terry (Jimmy) Usher, of Loxahatchee, Florida, Amy (Billy) Boozer, of Columbia, South Carolina, and Tara (Todd) King, of Pompano Beach, Florida; two aunts, Glenda Strickland and Vickie Bryson; two uncles, Dale Strickland and Van Strickland; grandfather, Mark Palmer; along with numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.

As a young man, Daniel enjoyed playing football and serving in R.O.T.C for four years at Tuscola High School and graduated in 1995. He loved to hunt with his father, riding his motorcycle and dancing.

When Daniel graduated high school, he joined the United States Air Force. Daniel was a proud veteran and retired as a master sergeant after serving the United States for over 20 years. He was in the 31st Fighter Wing at Aviano Air Force Base in Italy for most of his service. Daniel was responsible for many things, including maintenance and training men to maintain fighter jets. He was commended for his service, strength and leadership in the Air Force.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 11, 2016, at Smoky Mountain Chapel with the Rev. Alan Davis officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.Thursday, Nov. 10, at Smoky Mountain Cremations and Funeral Service. Burial with full military honors will follow services at Greenhill Cemetery.
