Doubly Bereaved

Died, at Toluca, California, April 22, 1898, Ralph Roby Wheeler, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Wheeler and brother of Mrs. John Conkings, of this city.

Deceased was 23 years old. Four years ago, he was married to Miss Carrie Sellen, of Cedar Falls, Iowa, but his wife only lived one year, dying with consumption. He contracted the disease and went to California, thinking to gain health again, but it was not to be. Two days after the son died, the father had to go, making a double blow on the family.

Joseph Wheeler was born in Ohio in 1835 and was married to Miss Emily Search in 1862. They moved to Butler county, Iowa, in 1864, where they lived until four years ago, when they went to California, and where he died with dropsy of the heart, two days after his son. Joseph Wheeler leaves three daughters and two sons, besides his wife. They are Mrs. John Conkings, of this city; Charles H., of Mason City, S. B., of Ellsworth, Minn.; Mrs. S. Sharp, of Waverly; and Miss Lesse, who is with her mother at Toluca.

Mrs. Conkings, who is so well known to most of our readers, will have the sincere sympathy of all in this double bereavement -- the death of a beloved father and brother.
