Having actually gone "Missing" on the above date, he was not officially declared by the military as being dead until October 25, 1945, 1 year and 1 day after he went missing as was the custom.

Paul served as a Lieutenant Junior Grade, U.S.S. Essex (CV-9), U.S. Navy during World War II.

He resided in Fairfield County, Connecticut prior to the war.

Paul was declared "Missing In Action" in the Battle for Leyte Gulf during the war. Because of him being awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross it is believed he was flying at the time he went missing.

He was awarded the "Distinguished Flying Cross", Air Medal and the Purple Heart.

Paul also has a "Cenotaph" with his parents in the Oak Lawn Cemetery, Fairfield, Connecticut.
