Virginia Beach - Vicki E. McDowell, 47, passed away Monday, November 7, 2016.

A native of Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania, she was the beloved daughter of Howard V. Houser, Catawissa, PA, and the late Kathy E. Houser. She is survived by her loving husband, Shawn McDowell; their son, Aiden McDowell; and her step-children, Jack and Donavan McDowell; all of Virginia Beach, VA. Her surviving siblings are her brothers, Howard V. Houser, Jr., and his wife, Kristine, of Berwick, PA; and Steven R. Houser and his wife, Lana, of Bloomsburg, PA; and sister, Laraine E. Strausbaugh, Chesapeake, VA.

Vicki proudly served her country for 20 years in the United States Navy and retired as a Chief Petty Officer in 2006. After the Navy, Vicki enjoyed teaching English at Strayer University and Tidewater Community College, professional belly dancing, camping with her family, and attending her boys' soccer and baseball games. Vicki was an inspiration to those around her, lived her life to the fullest and will be deeply missed.

The family will be honoring and celebrating Vicki's life on Sunday, November 20, at 2:00 pm at the Hilton Virginia Beach Oceanfront, Virginia Beach. Memorial donations may be made to the Duke Cancer Fund at https://www.gifts.duke.edu/medpp
