Carol Marion Cox passed away on Saturday, November 12, 2016 at the age of 82.
He was born January 27, 1934 in Levelland, Texas in Hockley County to Tolbert Fanning Cox & Jessie Lee McAnally Cox.
Carol was a member of the Class of 1953 at Burnet High School. He married Emma Jane "Janie" Peacock on July 5th , 1958.
He worked many different jobs. He drove trucks for Burnet County when he and Janie first married, was a tour guide at Longhorn Caverns (where they lived on the premises). He sold insurance in West Texas and returned to work at a family owned convenience store in Copperas Cove, Tx. He and Janie ran fireworks stands in Copperas Cove for years.
When they had their fourth child, they penned a letter to President LBJ in search of better and steadier work. Carol was appointed to a position of honor as Congressional Appointee at Ft. Hood Texas: commissary food preparation and motor pool dispatching were his details until he retired in the 80's. He also worked on his farm raising hogs and working on cars and tractors. Frequently selling loads of melons with his brothers Dale & TG.
He was preceded in death by his wife Emma Jane "Janie" Peacock Cox on October 30, 2004. He was also preceded by his parents, and his siblings: Malcolm McCall Cox of Kermit, TX; Johnnie Pauline "Polly" Humphrey of Levelland, TX; Tolbert Greenfield "TG" Cox of Burnet, TX; Hazel Myree McCulloch of Levelland, TX; Celia Vio Smith of Burnet, TX; Jesse Darrow "JD" Cox of Burnet, TX; Billie Jean Shelburn of Burnet, TX; Gwynetha Maydell Cox who passed away as an infant in Levelland, TX
He is survived by his brother Calvin Dale Cox of Levelland, TX; his four children: SON-Stacey Dale Cox & Wife Linda of Burnet, TX their two sons Garrett & Preston. DAUGHTER -Amanda Jane "Mandy" Cox of Burnet, TX and her children: Keenan Carey of Burnet, TX, Jordan Carey and wife Stephanie of Leander, TX and their two boys-Aiden and Landen ; Tyler Hockett of Burnet, TX. DAUGHTER-Sandra Susan "Susie" Jobe & husband Bobby of Midland, TX and their son Perry Lee. And, SON-David Carol Cox and wife Terry of San Saba, TX and their children Kelli, Luke, and Micah.
He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors.
Services under the direction of Clements-Wilcox in Burnet, TX. Pastor Barry Drake officiating, assisted by Mr. Jernigan. Visitation will be Sunday evening at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home 306 East Polk, Burnet, TX 78611 from 5pm to 7pm. Service will be Monday November 14, 2016 at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home 10 am followed by graveside service at Bethel Cemetery on CR 202 which is 8 miles East on FM 963, Burnet, TX
