Mr. Clarence “Jr.” Cooper was born in Clayton, North Carolina to his parents, late Rev. Thomas and Corene Cooper. He joined the church at an early age and attended Cooper School in Clayton. Clarence was drafted into the US Army and served in Ft. Jackson, South Carolina and Ft. Leonard, Missouri. He was very proud of his contributions as a veteran and always encouraged and honored others who served in the military.

The last twenty-six years of life, Clarence often spent his time fishing, working in his yard, and tinkering with his van. During these times he also focused on renewing his faith and strengthening his walk with the Lord.

“Jr.” was preceded in death by four sisters and three brothers.

He was blessed with a happy life with long- time companion, Ms. Bernice Saxon. Clarence, affectionately known as “Bow” or ”Coop,” leaves to mourn, his sons, Derrick Cooper of Maryland and McKelvey (LaToya) Cooper of Pennsylvania; daughters, Dianne Hood of Washington, DC, Ramona Cooper and Melinda Cooper, both of Philadelphia, PA; stepdaughter, Monica Chamberlain of Danville, VA; brothers, Levi Cooper and Nathaniel (Dean), Cooper, both of Four Oaks, NC; sisters, Christine Ziegler (Tony) Barrett of Philadelphia, PA and Dorothy Mosley-McClendon of Mauldin; nineteen loving grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren and a numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives, special childhood friends and military buddies, A.J. and Otis Williams, and a host friends to cherish his memory.

Funeral Service Friday, Oct. 28 at Friendship Baptist Church.
