He was preceded in death by his father, James Poindexter, Sr.; his grandparents; and his nephew, Wayne Poindexter.
He was survived by his wife, Sue Hibbard Poindexter of Rayville; his daughter, Glenda McBroom of Start and her fiancé, John Laird of Vicksburg, MS; his mother, Lela Woodward Poindexter Brunson of Monroe; six sisters, Bobbye Buelow of Monroe, Gay Driscoll and husband Dick of Gulf Port, MS, Ida Gilley of Mangham, Lila Walimaa and husband Ray of West Monroe, Ann Kitchens and husband Marvin of West Monroe, and Doris Cox and husband Tommy of Mangham; one brother, Tommy Poindexter and wife Mag of Mangham; sisters-in-law, Jimmie Crocker of Lake Village, AR and Patsy Poindexter of Mangham; brothers-in-law, H. B. Hibbard of Winnsboro, Joey Hibbard of Rayville, and Pete Mercer of Mangham; nieces and nephews.
