She was born January 7, 1927 to Earl and Ruth Ann (St. Peter) Drake, in Sault St. Marie, and was raised in Munising. Ruth was a graduate of Scared Heart School and in Oct 1944, she married Lawrence J. Courter of Van Meer. Ruth and Lawrence moved to the Muskegon area in 1953, where she worked as a nurse for Mercy Hospital in Muskegon. In the early 1970’s the family moved to the Bay Area of California and then returned in the mid 1980’s to Lost Lake (Wetmore) where Lawrence built a home for her. Lawrence preceded her in death on January 8, 1988, after 43 years of marriage.
She is survived by 5 of her children, Lawrence Courter Jr. of California, Ruth (Sis) Kelley, Patricia Knight, Emily Courter, all of Michigan and Harriet Yale of Nevada; 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Four of her siblings: Tony Drake, Leora ‘Toddie’ Tweedale, Ella Burness, and Marie Broda.
Ruth was also preceded in death by her sons, Stephen in 1962, Earl in 1994, and a grandson Drake Courter in 1998.
At her request, no services or visitation were held for Ruth.
