Despite significant health issues in his life, he married, had a daughter and owned a home. He attended Mississippi State University and graduated from Rets Electronics Institute in Birmingham, Alabama. Upon graduation, he worked for Spacecraft Inc. (SCI) in Huntsville, Alabama and later moved to Fort Walton Beach with his family. He worked for the Okaloosa County Water Department until retirement.
Mike never met a stranger, always had a ready smile, a kind, loving heart, and was ever willing to say how much he loved us. He loved music and the freedom he felt riding his motorcycle. He had fond memories of being in the Boy Scouts of America and spending time at Haphazard, the McLellan family property in Slidell, Louisiana.
Mike is survived by his daughter, Holley Van Susteren and her husband Jared; ex-wife, Kathy Keener; mother, Mary McLellan Hefter; sister, Leigh McLellan; brother, William McLellan and his wife, Yu-Mei, their daughters, Leigh and Lisa; sister, Catherine Lawrence, her husband William, and their daughters Marie and Anne.
Michael's ashes will be interred in Magnolia Cemetery in Meridian, Mississippi, next to our father, Earnest Leigh McLellan. A small amount of his ashes will be scattered over a bayou in Louisiana as he requested.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Michael's memory to, Mental Health Association of Okaloosa Walton County, 571 Mooney Road NE, Fort Walton Beach, FL 32547, would be appreciated.
