Obituary of Imogene Brown

Brown, Imogene Vernelle Tinsley

Brown, Imogene Vernelle Tinsley (age 91)

On November 2, 2016, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed peacefully to heaven.

Born April 16, 1925 in Culpeper, VA, lived in Anacostia where she graduated high school then attended Strayer Business School. She worked at the Naval Research Lab and also modeled for them in their advertisements.

A blind date led to her 52 year marriage to Kenneth Ray Brown (deceased) and her move to Maryland. Her greatest love was being a mother to her four children. She was an active member of Berwyn Presbyterian Church where she served as an elder and a deacon as well as participating in Circle groups. Imogene worked for United Cerebral Palsy for 20 years. She was a 42 year breast cancer survivor.

Following her retirement, she and dad moved to Northern VA. She became a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church. Intrigued with family history, she began genealogy research and was qualified to become a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). She eventually served as Regent and Vice-regent of the Mary Washington Chapter. In 2009, she moved to Tall Oaks of Reston where she attended Bible study, was a member of the resident committee as well as being involved in their many activities.

Imogene is survived by her children, Gary Brown (Margee), Carl Brown (Lisa), Becky Shepard (Kevin), Nancy Meier (Tim), 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
