Obituary:
Carrie Johnson Knutson, daughter of John C. Johnson, Sr. and Mary Roe, was born in Halsnoen, Norway, on Dec. 22, 1848. She emigrated with her parents to the United States at the age of 12 years. They settled in Mower county where she resided until her death. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith, of this church she remained a lifelong member.
She was married to Jacob S. Knutson on Nov. 29, 1869, at Austin by Rev. Clausen, who also confirmed her. This union was blessed with eleven children – six boys who survive, three girls and two boys preceded her in death. Her husband was laid to rest two and one half years ago.
She had suffered with rheumatism for many years. Seven years ago she fell and fractured her hip, and has been unable to walk since. She spent her last ten days in bed, suffering patiently from heart trouble together with several other ailments. She died at the home of her son Carl on April 28 at the age of 83 years, 4 months, and 6 days. In spite of her many years of suffering and pain, she was very patient, pleasant and thankful to those about her. She has been a true believer in the Lutheran faith and has longed for the time to come when she could meet her Saviour face to face. Her loss is deeply felt by her family and a large circle of friends. She leaves to mourn her departure six sons: Simon, Jacob and Carl of Adams, John of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Eddie of Rake, Iowa, and Chris of Charles City, Ia. She also leaves three sisters, Mrs. Ida Olson, Mrs. Mary Gravdahl and Mrs. Nils Anderson, all of Adams. Three brothers, Nils and John R. Johnson of Adams, John C. Johnson Jr. of Aberdeen, S. D. and 17 grandchildren.
Funeral services were held from the Little Cedar church Monday afternoon, her pastor, Rev. Alfred Breivik, officiating. Mesdames Ernest Anderson and Nordeen Torgerson sang two very appropriate duets. Miss Ida Anderson presided at the organ.
Her body was laid to rest in the Little Cedar Lutheran cemetery. The pall bearers were Joel Johnson, Edwin Johnson, Ed Knutson, Hilman Knutson, Russell Lunde and Lloyd Rogne.
