Elizabeth Church Brandon, 76, passed into eternal rest Sept. 5, 2002. Through her life, many were taught the plan of salvation. She spent many years of her life serving as a pianist and organist for a number of churches in Norfolk. She was predeceased by her husband, Samuel Brandon Jr., formerly of South Boston, Va.

A native of Norfolk, she was educated in Norfolk public schools. She was reared in the Lambert's Point section of Norfolk where she was a member of the Rose of Sharon Baptist Church for more than 40 years and served as a deaconess. She was currently a member of Holy Light Church of Deliverance where she served faithfully under the pastoral leadership of Bishop Samuel L. Carruth for more than 25 years.

She was a member of the Gospel Choir, the Senior Usher Board and had served as chairperson of the food committee. She served her God ordained positions in church until she was no longer able to do so. She was an avid supporter of the New Generation Youth program. Outside of her church she assisted with the creation of the Women Empowered Conference. She supported all facets of her children's ministries. In 2000, she was presented the Woman of Favor Award for her unfailing commitment to serving her church and community. She had been actively involved with the American Cancer Society and the Heart Association.

She is survived by a son, Samuel Brandon III (Virginia) of Newport News, and three daughters, the Rev. Sandi B. Hutchinson (Leon) of Chesapeake, Vanessa Brandon of Portsmouth and Valerie Hamlin (Jim) of Portsmouth. She is also survived by a brother, Willie Church of Lancaster, S.C.; and two sisters, Emma Barbour of Portsmouth and Flora Mason of Norfolk. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, Samuel Worsley, Tiffani-dawn Sykes, Samantha Brandon, Alexxis Hutchinson and Brandon Hamlin. She leaves to cherish her good works a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, friends and church family.

A funeral celebrating her life will take place at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Holy Light Church of Deliverance in Portsmouth with Bishop Samuel L. Carruth officiating. Interment will take place at the Hampton National Veterans Cemetery in Hampton. Viewing will begin at noon Monday at Corprew Funeral Home. The body will be taken to the church at 11 a.m. Tuesday.
