"This bright, rosy cheeked, fair haired boy died at the home of his grandparents, in Sloansville, Aug. 20th, after only a few days' illness, of spinal meningitis, aged 14 years. He was the first born of Herman and Jennie [Davenport] Wessell. Taken in the morning of life, in mid-boyhood, between child and youth, with all the volatility of the child upon him, untouched with the passions that come with adolescence and often cause deep anxiety in the minds of thoughtful parents. The bereaved parents have been spared this for their boy, and can ever treasure thoughts of Leonard as taken by the Saviour in the innocency of childhood. Funeral at the house Tuesday, Aug. 23, conducted by Rev. W. A. Parker. Burial in the family plot in our Valley cemetery. Besides relatives from Amsterdam we noticed Mrs. John VanEpps of Hoffmans, and John P. McAuley and Mrs. Gardner from Central Bridge." [The Cobleskill Index (Cobleskill, NY), August 25, 1910, Page 1]
