After graduating from Bowling Green High School in 1956, Jim served his country as a member in the U.S. Navy. He enjoyed golfing and was a member of the Bowling Green Country Club as well as cheering on the Ohio State Buckeyes on Saturday afternoons. Jim and his wife, Linda enjoyed traveling around the country to Alaska, Maine, the Upper Peninsula, and Hawaii. They also were big supporters of St. Jude’s. Jim found great joy in supporting his grandchildren and great-grandchildren in their sporting events.
Jim worked as a General Sales Manager at Yark and Navarre Oldsmobile, sold Broyhill furniture across the state of Ohio, was an owner of JT’s Carryout in Bowling Green, and also was the co-owner of Collegiate Connection (Jeans & Things) from 1980-2011.
Jim is survived by his sons Scott Rood and Mike (Cherie) Rood. He is also survived by his brother Stan Rood of Ft. Myers Florida, grandchildren Ashley (Tony) Lake, Alex Rood and Nick Rood, and great-grandchildren Avery and Jackson Martin. He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda (Brigham) Rood, in January of 2017. He also was preceded in death by his brothers Norman, Robert and Don as well as his sisters Nola Shiets and Genelle Torok.
Visitation for Jim will be held Thursday October 11, 2018 from 10:00-12:00 PM with the funeral service beginning at noon at Dunn Funeral Home, 408 West Wooster Street, Bowling Green, Ohio. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery where Military services will be rendered by the Wood County Honor Detail. Tony Lake will officiate. Memorial contributions in Jim’s memory can be given to St. Jude’s.
