BEDFORD: Maj. Robert D. Currier (USAF, Retired), 72, died Nov. 3, 2011, at home. Mr. Currier was born Oct. 13, 1939, in Manchester to the late Robert F. and Irma (Schmerder) Currier.

He was a graduate of Manchester Central High School, Class of 1957, and received his bachelor's degree from Saint Anselm College. He joined the U.S. Air Force in June 1962. After serving his country proudly, including a tour in Vietnam and receiving various medals, he retired in March 1982. He traveled extensively while in the military and later as a communications specialist until his retirement from Mitre in 2001.

Mr. Currier was an avid fisherman, taking annual trips to Pittsburg [New Hampshire] with his dad and brother, along with being seen in his foldable boat on the Hampton River. He was known for his fly-tying prowess, with which he was able to stock a small bait shop.

He was an inspiration to all, displaying courage and tenacity in the wake of many medical challenges, all the while maintaining his sense of humor and quick wit.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Margaret (Driscoll) Currier; his brother William; and his beloved canine companion Samantha.

Family members include his wife Joan; son Jim Kuykendall; daughters Jennifer and husband Andrew Berkeley, and Jodi and husband Christopher Lefort; his grandchildren, who fondly referred to him as "Bubba": Alexus, Jacob, Addison, Jonathan, and Emma; sisters Carol and husband Doug Cady, and Judy and husband Richard Malik; sister-in-law Linda Currier; brother-in-law Richard and wife Barbara Tortorelli; and several nieces and nephews.
