Charles Elton "Buddy" Burkett

ZANESVILLE: Charles Elton "Buddy" Burkett. 80, of Zanesville, Ohio , went to be with the Lord on November 3, 2016 at 12:30 P.M. at his home with family by his side after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born December 4, 1935 in East Fultonham to the late Charles Henry and Lela Mrytle Reynolds Burkett. Buddy served in the United States Army where he was based in Fort Knox, Kentucky and was in the reserves in Fort Hayes, Ohio for 4 years. He was employed by David Davies and was a Laborer helping build the Philo Dam, also J+K Auto Clinic and C.W, Taylor + Sons Construction. Buddy was a huge Ohio State fan. He was also an avid NASCAR fan, his favorite driver was "Lowe's" Jimmie Johnson. He was a Dirt track Stock car fan where he flagged, painted the detail on cars and worked in the pits for years. In his early years, he liked riding his motor cycle. Buddy coached football for East Tigers and was a coach for Biddy League baseball. He was an Artist and Carpenter and liked to make people laugh. In his later years he liked collecting cans and coloring. Buddy had 2 faithful companions his dogs Suni and Logo. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle.

He is survived by his wife, Cheryl D. Pierce Burkett whom he married March 13, 1985; three sons, Rickie (Tina) Burkett of Zanesville, Greg (Shannon) Burkett of Blue Rock and Damon (Lisa) Burkett of Zanesville; daughter, Monica (Mike) Dingey of Blue Rock; three step-daughters (which he considered his own), Gaynelle (Wayne) Coen of Philo, Alena (Tyrone) Pemberton of Zanesville and Rodena (David) Potts of Zanesville; four sisters, Wanda Carnes, Pearl Fesler, Ruby Maxwell of Zanesville, Carol Grandstaff of Blue Rock; eight grandchildren, nine step-grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one on the way. Several nieces, nephews and a good friend, Jeff Lutz.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey Kenneth Burkett; brother, Louis "Paul" Burkett and a good friend, John Wyer.

Calling hours will be held 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm Monday, November 7, 2016 at DeLong-Baker & Lanning Funeral Home, where services will take place 11:00 am Tuesday, November 8, 2016 with Pastor Tim Gifford officiating. Burial will follow at Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery.
