Thelma was born on December 28, 1922 in Walton, the daughter of the late Mahlon W. and Anna (Wood) Rowell. She was a graduate of Walton Central School, Class of 1938. On August 22, 1941 she married Bruce H. McCoy in Walton. He predeceased her on May 8, 2010.
Thelma was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church Walton, where she was a Sunday School Teacher, sang in the choir, and past President of the Women's Fellowship Group. She enjoyed tending to her flower and vegetable gardens, playing pinochle, cross stitch, crocheting, quilting, doing crosswords, and word jumbles, and reading Christian and fiction books. She also enjoyed watching the birds and wildlife feeding from her dining room window.
Thelma is survived by her loving family, her children, Janice and Donald Armstrong of Bainbridge; Jeanne Burns of Denver, CO; Jacqueline and John Hattersley of Skaneateles; James and Marie McCoy of Sidney Center; her grandchildren, Mark and Jennifer, Stephen and Elaine, Jami, Kathryn, James and Alexis, Matthew and Heather, Shawn, Marcel and Corbin, Stacy and Dan, Michael, Nikki, 12 great grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her sisters, Dorothy A. Goodrich, Helen Dag, Marjory A. Banks, her brothers, Junius Rowell and William Rowell.
Family and friends are invited to call on Monday, August 24, 2015 from 10AM to 11AM at the First Baptist Church, 59 Townsend Street, Walton where services will be held at 11AM with the
Rev. Jay O'Connor, officiating. Burial will follow in the Walton Cemetery, 55 Fancher Avenue, Walton.
