WESTLAND, Mich./ABINGDON, Va. Marilyn Amelia McConnell Connor passed from her earthly existence on Saturday, November 5, 2016, at Angela Hospice in Livonia, Mich. She was born in Abingdon, Va. to the late Frederick Abram and Rachael Booher McConnell. She was active in 4-H and won numerous awards for her sewing projects. She was also an accomplished pianist, but preferred playing only for family and friends. She began her secondary studies at Virginia Intermont College and subsequently graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute with a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics. She put her home economics knowledge to good use in growing a family. She also loved growing flowers and watching the animals in the yard. Marilyn was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Tiffany Hooper. She is survived by her husband, James of Westland, Michigan, and daughters, Karen Marie Hooper and husband, Keith of Greeneville, Tenn., and Patricia Ann Fisher and husband, Brock of Dublin, Ohio. She is also survived by six brothers and sisters, Fred McConnell Jr. and wife, Norma of Dillwyn, Va., Mary Hall and husband Terry of Clermont, Florida, Margaret Ludlow and husband, Terry of Fredericksburg, Va., David McConnell and wife, Pam of Hixson, Tenn., Albert McConnell and wife, Kathy of Meadowview, Va. and Robert McConnell and wife, Ann of Abingdon, Va. She also leaves five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, November 10, 2016, at Frost Funeral Home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 11, 2016, in Green Spring Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Jon Martin officiating. A graveside ceremony will follow in the church cemetery.
