Son of William Barker & his second wife Rebecca nee Potter. Henry came west to Kane a County, Illinois in 1863 or 1864, as did his sister Annie with her new husband Lemuel Milk Potter. Henry & his brother-in-law were partners and erected many structures in La Fox, IL. They built the Barker & Potter grain elevator, a cheese factory (which they owned & operated, later turning it into a creamery) & a new store for Frederick Dean which Lemuel later bought out & renamed Potter's Store.
