1914-2001

Edna E. Torrens, 87, died Monday, July 30, 2001, at Fairview Nursing Home in Dodge Center.

She was born July 8, 1914, on a farm near Hope, N.D. and grew up there.

She married Chester A. Torrens Sept. 20, 1933, in Austin and they farmed near Oakland for 40 years before moving to Austin.

She worked for the Holiday Inn for several years.

She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aid.

She enjoyed sewing quilts, gardening, playing cards and puzzles.

Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Vern Torrens and his wife, Joanne, Decatur, Ill.; James Torrens and his wife, Carol, American Fork, Utah; a daughter and son-in-law, Shirley Huff and her husband, Marv, Kasson; 19 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Paul Steinke and his wife, Alice, Longmont, Colo.; a sister, Evelyn Carlson, Fargo, N.D.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester in 1988; three brothers and two sisters.

Service: 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, 2001, at St. John's Lutheran Church with the Rev. William Natzke officiating.

Visitation: Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 3, 2001, at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary and for one hour before the service at the church on Saturday.

Interment: Grandview Cemetery
