Jimmie Dale Hill
October 2, 1934 – November 2, 2016

Jimmie passed away November 2, 2016, peacefully at home with his family by his side after a short battle with cancer and pneumonia. Jimmie was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Wesley and Lula Pearl; son, Kevin Dale; and brother, Referd Clifton (Art). Jimmie is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Norma Jean; daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa and Brian and Lori and Basil; granddaughters, Kaitlin and Sydney; great-grandchildren, Taylor and Logan; brother and sister-in-law, Charles (Chuck) and Donna; sister and brother-in-law, Carrol June and Neal; and sister, Charlotte Jean, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Jimmie joined the U.S. Air Force in 1952, where he served in the U.S. and Japan during the Korean conflict. After exiting the Air Force, he worked at Lockheed for a short period until he went to work for the California Division of Forestry in Tulare County, where he advanced from Fireman to Captain. His next big move was working for the Kern County Fire Department in the Dispatch Office. In addition to dispatching, he worked part-time for Mayflower Moving and Storage and eventually bought his own truck and became an independent contractor with Mayflower. With Mayflower, Jimmie traveled all over the U.S. and Canada. Jimmie retired from Mayflower in 1997 and later went back to work for several years, this time as a delivery driver for Farmer John Eggs.

Jimmie was thrilled to go on the Honor Flight of Kern County in April 2013 with his brother, Chuck. Since taking his Honor Flight trip, Jimmie would be at the airport to see other veterans departing and arriving back home from their Honor Flight trips. He knew how special it was for him to see others seeing him off and greeting him upon arrival, and he wanted to do the same for other veterans.

Committal service with military honors will be Friday, November 18th, at the National Cemetery in Arvin at 1:15 p.m. Chapel services will be Saturday, November 19th, at 10:00 a.m. at Greenlawn Funeral Home on River Boulevard, with reception immediately following at the Society for Disabled Children, 1819 Brundage Lane, Bakersfield, 93304.

We would like to thank Mona, Shellie, Jani, and Roz with Hoffmann Hospice and Josh with Reece Homecare Services for their kindness and gentle caring of Jimmie during his last few weeks.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to one of the following organizations in Jimmie’s memory:
