Rev John Ault


John Ault was the son of William and Elizabeth Black Ault. He was born near Annville, Lebanon Co., PA. He graduated with honors from Franklin and Marshall College, Lancaster, PA in 1857 and from the Reformed seminary in Mercersburg, PA in 1859. He married Sarah Isabella Waggoner of Carlisle on July 21 (29), 1859. He first served Reformed churches on Louden and St. Thomas, Fulton Co., PA from 1859-1863. During his pastorate 135 members were added to the churches. He was chaplain to the 126th Regiment of Pennsylvania Volunteers from December 2, 1862-May 20, 1863. From 1863 -1873 he served a four church charge near Mechanicsburg, PA. From 1873 until his death, in 1880, he served the four church Littlestown PA charge. During his tenure Christ Church was remodeled and Redeemers was enlarged. Five hundred members were added to his churches in seven years. He died in Littlestown, Adams Co., PA after a ten day illness with typhoid fever. The Aults had seven children: Mary Belle Hoy, Rev. John Waggoner Ault, Anna Elizabeth Ault, Anna Miller Ault died young, Anna Grace Ault died young, Clara May Ault and Laura Blanche Ault.
