Edgar Lee Montgomery, beloved husband, father, pawpaw and great grandpa went to be with his Lord on Sunday, Nov. 6, 2016 in Corsicana.
Edgar was known by many different names...the ones that can be mentioned in public are Edgar, Edgar Lee, Butch, Eddie, El (when he was in trouble) Pawpaw and Pops.
Edgar was born April 12, 1939 to Eddie and Ernie Montgomery. He had one sister, Evelyn and grew up in Emhouse on a land farmed by his family. Edgar graduated from Emhouse Public School in 1957. He was active in basketball and livestock showing and married his high school sweetheart, Nancy Sue Morgan, on Aug. 29, 1957. They had three children, Edgar "Lee" Montgomery Jr., Susan "Lynette" Montgomery and Scott Douglas Montgomery.
Edgar worked as a Master Electrician and made his home in Rice. He started his own business in Corsicana, Montgomery Electric, and loved to cut up with his employees. He was a member of the Emhouse Methodist Church and served on the Rice School Board for many years.
Edgar was quick with a joke or story and loved his westerns; John Wayne was his favorite. His hobbies included coin collecting and napping. He was known for his toboggan and overalls. He loved to have his family down to his house at the lake. He touched many lives and will be missed by all.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Eddie and Ernie Bewley Montgomery Fincher; step father, Aubrey Fincher; sister and brother in law, Evelyn and Howard Neylan Drain; loving wife Nancy Morgan Montgomery and granddaughter Kami.
He is survived by his three children and spouses, Lee and Janette Montgomery of Retreat, Lynette and Mark Dickens of Tupelo and Scott and Tamera Montgomery of Frost; grandchildren, Crystal and Brian Goecker of Dallas, Daniel and Wendy Montgomery of Brownsboro, Melissa and David Saucedo of Rice, Jessica and Jeremy Owen of Navarro, Sarah Dickens of Tupelo, Jeff and Sarah Montgomery of Highland Village, Kyle Montgomery of Dallas; great grandchildren, Adrian, Austin and Alex Saucedo, Kami, Krislynn and Kinzler Owen, Sophia, Sydney and Ryan Montgomery, Cole Goecker, and Evan and Rowan Montgomery. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, friends and the Montgomery Electric Crew (present and past).
The family would like to thank Navarro Regional Hospital, Trisun, Heritage Oaks West and his doctors for their love and care during the last month. Memorials may be made to Emhouse Methodist Church,
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2016 at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home.
Funeral Service will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, 2016 at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Jason Wilder of Frost Baptist Church officiating. Interment to follow at Pattison Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his grandsons.
