David William Keen, 66, of rural Westphalia, Kansas, passed away late Friday, November 4, 2016, at Olathe Medical Center.

David was born on January 4, 1950, at Burlington, Kansas, the son of Forrest Alvin and Mabel Pauline (Neill) Keen. He grew up on the farm in the Scott Valley neighborhood in Eastern Coffey County, and attended Scott Valley through the fifth grade. He then attended Westphalia schools, and graduated from Westphalia High School in the Class of 1968. He attended college at Allen County for one year.

On October 4, 1969, he was married to Margaret Ann Harrington at St. Teresa Catholic Church in Westphalia. David farmed for a time, then began his life's work as a carpenter. He started in carpentry working for Larry Eichmann several years, then went out on his own. In 1992, he entered into partnership with Kent Beyer doing carpentry, and shortly they bought Gridley Lumber and have operated the business since.
He enjoyed the outdoors and spent much of his spare time camping, hunting and fishing. He and Margaret had been members of the Prairie Promenaders square dance club. David was always up for a game of cards, and especially enjoyed get-togethers with the Class of 1968, with whom he shared a special and lasting friendship.
David was a beloved member of his community, and was always there to help a neighbor or friend in need. He loved children and always made time to take an interest in them and support their activities.
He was preceded in death by his parents and several other beloved family members and in-laws.
He is survived by Margaret, his wife of 47 years, of the home; by his brother Bruce Keen, of Bartlesville, who lost his wife Linda, just days after losing David; by his nieces and nephews, and his great- and great-great nieces and nephews, many of whom were as close as grandchildren to David; and by many other relatives and good friends.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM on Thursday, November 10, 2016, at Jones Funeral Home in Burlington, with burial following in Star Cemetery.
The family will receive friends for visitation from 7:00 to 8:00 PM on Wednesday evening, November 9, at the Funeral Home.
Contributions to the "David Keen Memorial" may be sent in care of Jones Funeral Home, P.O. Box 277, Burlington, KS 66839.
