Murder Victim...

Emelita Villa came to Arlington in 1987 from her home country of the Philippines as an impoverished 18-year-old to be married to a man 30 years older, Jack Reeves who saw her in a mail order-bride magazine and chose her to be his fourth wife...
Emelita was reported missing on Oct. 12, 1994. An Arlington police officer who went to the Reeves home late that night testified that Mr. Reeves would not allow him inside and that he became angry when asked about his wife's whereabouts. Her remains were discovered near Lake Whitney in Hill Co, in October.
Jack Reeves was found guilty on August, 20, 1996 of the murder of Emelita. A jury in a small, Hill Co. town, 90 miles southwest of Dallas, took slightly more than 82 minutes to convict Mr. Reeves of the murder, and another 86 minutes to sentence him to 99 years in prison....
This story was featured in Forensic Files Season 7, Episode 27 'A Vow of Silence'...Emelita spent the first eighteen years of her life living in poverty and was willing to do anything to provide for her family. She sent her picture to Cherry Blossoms; a subscription service for mail-order brides and in 1987, met and married Jack Reeves, a retired army sergeant and father of two. The couple had one son. Once Emelita arrived in Texas, Jack Reeves kept his promise and started sending Emelita's family $250 a month; a small fortune compared to the $3 a month Emelita's father was earning. On October 11, 1994, Emelita Reeves went to lunch with some friends at the Lotus Restaurant in Arlington, TX. During lunch she confided that she was done with her husband's sexual demands and controlling behaviour and planned to divorce him. After lunch, she went shopping, but never returned home. When questioned, Jack Reeves was absolutely nonchalant about his wife's whereabouts and said he assumed she was with her female lover, Monalisa Pate. Later on, to help the investigation, Jack offered a $25,000 reward for the safe return of his wife's safe return. Detectives learned that Emelita had never loved her husband and once told friends that Jack asked her to have sex with his son from an earlier marriage, but she refused. And a deeper look into Jack Reeves's life showed that he'd been married three other times; Jack married his first wife when he was eighteen and she was only fifteen. Her mother had the marriage annulled. In 1961, Jack married his second wife Sharon Vaughn and had two sons: Ricky and Randall. While Jack was serving in South Korea with the U.S. Army, Sharon filed for divorce. Reeves rushed home to try to save the marriage but a few days later, Sharon died from a gunshot wound to her chest. Her death had been ruled a suicide. After Sharon's death, Jack returned to Korea where he met his third wife: Myong Hui Chong, whom he married on New Year's Eve 1980. Six years later, while vacationing at Lake Whitney, Myong was floating on a raft while Jack was gathering crickets as fish bait and she allegedly had fallen off and drowned. Despite her sister's concerns about her death, no autopsy was performed and Jack had Myong cremated. Sharon Reeves was exhumed and a more extensive autopsy confirmed that she was murdered and Jack was sentenced to 35 years in prison. Almost one year after her disappearance, Emelita's skeletal remains were found in a shallow grave near Lake Whitney. Due to the diatoms around her lungs, it is presumed that Jack drowned Emelita. Jack Reeves went on trial again for the murder of Emelita Reeves and received an additional 99-year prison sentence. He will not be eligible for parole until the year 2026. End Note: Even though he was never charged, Jack Reeves remains a suspect in the death of Myong Reeves.
