Albert O. VanPuyvelde, 94, of Rock Island, formerly of Moline passed away Monday, November 7, 2016 at Unity Point Trinity, Rock Island.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10am Thursday, November 10, 2016 at Sacred Heart Church, Moline. Visitation will be 3:30-6pm Wednesday at Rafferty Funeral Home, 2111-1st St A, Moline with a rosary recited at 3pm. Burial will be at National Cemetery, Rock Island with military honors by American Legion Post 246, Moline. Memorials can be made to the American Heart Association or Parkinson’s Disease Foundation.

Albert was born June 11, 1922 in Rock Island, the son of Cyriel and Alexa (VanStenhuyse) VanPuyvelde. He married Evelyn Accoe on May 28, 1949 at Christ the King Church, South Bend, IN. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in World War II in the Pacific Theatre.

Al worked as a meat cutter at Baecke’s IGA for 18 years and later for Eagle Country Market for 26 years.

Al was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Center for Belgium Culture and American Legion Post 246, Moline.

Among survivors are his wife, Evelyn. He was preceded in death by his sister, Irene DeCooman.
