Erin Alice’a Peters was born in El Paso, Texas on June 18, 1996 to Errol Alvarez Peters and Dena Smith Peters at William Beaumont Army Medical Center at Fort Bliss, Texas.


Erin accomplished anything she set her mind to beginning at an early age. She developed a true love for reading. While other kids were at recess or P.E. she chose to read. Erin grew up in Metairie, La. She attended Marie Riviere Elementary where it was determined she was gifted. She was transferred to Metairie Academy for Advanced Studies where she excelled. She then attended Haynes Academy for Advanced Studies for middle and high school. In between school time she also found time to play basketball which she loved dearly. She played basketball from 5 years old until the 12th grade; before being advised to leave basketball by a physician due several sustained concussions. She was a member of JPRD Biddy Basketball International Championship team winning the free throw championship contest, All-District Basketball team and Haynes varsity team Captain from 8th thru 12th grade.


Erin was also a member of Haynes Academy yearbook staff, Vice President of Student Counsel, member of the Key Club, President of the National Honor Society, Founder of Haynes Academy’s first African-American club.


Erin maintained a 4.7 GPA and was fluent in Spanish. Erin graduated Summa Cum Laude on May 10, 2014. She received a scholarship to Tulane University. Following in the footsteps of her mother a Tulane graduate, she attended Tulane making the Dean’s list. She was enrolled in the Tulane Liberal Arts program pursuing a career in Political Science leading up to a long career in Law with a desire to help, inspire and impact as many people as she could. As a campus leader she served as the Vice President of Omicron Psi Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. She was an ambassador for the Office of Multicultural Affairs this academic year. She was also employed at the Reily Recreation Center on Tulane campus for the past two years. Erin lived for and supported the Tulane Green Wave and all its glory.


Erin leaves to mourn her mother and father Errol and Dena Peters, a sister Erica Peters, a grandmother Jean Peters two honorary grandparents Ellen Dionne Alvarez, and Victor Joseph. Her godfather, Brent Peters and a godmother, Gabrielle Peters. She also had four god brothers: Thernell Simon, Brent Peters Jr., Brendan Peters, Jael and Joel Grayson. She had one god sister, Deriel Savoy . Also a host of cousins, uncles and aunts. Erin was preceded in death by a Grandmother Elaine Martinez Smith, Grandfathers Errol Ezekiel Peters and Charles Eugene Smith an aunt Selena Smith, a great uncle Alvin Martinez, and four Great grandparents: Joseph and Julia Martinez, and Ezekiel and Alma Peters.


Relatives, friends, Tulane University and Medical Center, Omicron Psi Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Jefferson Parish Sheriff Department, JS Paluch, JenCare, Haynes Academy, Alfred Lawless, and Francis T. Nicholls high schools are all invited to attend.


Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Ponchatrain Blvd. in New Orleans on Wednesday November 9, 2016 at 1:00pm. Visitation will begin at 10:00am; with the Alpha Kappa Alpha- Ivy Beyond The Wall ceremony 11:30am-12:15pm. Interment will follow at Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum.
