Mitchell Spencer, 88, of Mount Sterling, KY went home to dance with his forever sweetheart peacefully Saturday November 5th, 2016 at his home. He was the son of the late B Spencer & Myrtle Fultz. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Mary Elizabeth Spencer. Survivors include one son, Dale (Gwen) Spencer of Winchester, KY 6 daughters, Alice (the late Bill) Stigall, Linda (Lanny) Manley, Barb (Mike) Trent, Diane (Ronnie) Brooks, Carol (Jon) Goodwin, Kathy (Robert) McCoy all from Mt. Sterling. 5 stepsons and 1 stepdaughter Wayne (Vickie) Belcher from Richmond, Joe (the late Carla) Belcher, Tony (Sue) Belcher, and Danny Belcher from Owingsville, Shirley (the late Windy) Lewis from Mt. Sterling, Chuck (Becky) Belcher from Illinois. 24 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren & 6 great great grandchildren. A beloved singer and multi-instrument musician, Spencer has recorded numerous albums beginning in the late 1950’s with his group The Bluegrass Express Boys. In 2013 He and his late wife Mary were awarded the lifetime achievement award from the Gospel Music Academy (Nashville, TN.). Spencer was also appointed an honorable Kentucky Colonel by Governor Steve Beshear in 2014 for his contribution to preserving and pioneering Bluegrass Gospel music in Kentucky.

Servies will be 1 PM, Friday, November 11, 2016 at the Life Impact Church with Bro. Anthony Castle, Bro. Ricky Meadows and Jon Goodwin officiating with burial following at Bashford Cemetery. Friends may visit Thursday, 4-8 PM at the Life Impact Church. Pallbearers will be Robert McCoy, Jonathan Goodwin, Joshua Moore, Michael Otis, Zac Otis, Dale Spencer, Will Goodwin and Nick Thorne. Honorary Pallbearers will be Charlie Craycraft, Ike Sams, Jimmy Miracle, Victor Holland and Paul Ross.
