Johann emigrated to USA, Missouri in 1857 with wife Elizabeth and 9 of his 10 children. He bought 280 acres in Cole County, Missouri in 1858. He served in the Missouri Cole County Home Guard Unit of the Union Army from June 18, 1861 until mustering out October 2, 1861. He also died October 2, 1861. To date I have not been able to verify if he was wounded or died of disease because of his duty. The mustering out date and death being the same makes it highly likely. He was buried on the Hager property 150 feet behind the house within 15 feet of the northwest corner of the barn. A second grave is located next to him of a six month old Hager infant.(I was told this age by the property owner in 1982)Name unknown. Both stones were broken off the bases many years ago. I have placed a new headstone setting it between these two graves for Johann showing his original headstone information and indicating "baby Hager" with arrows pointing to each grave accordingly. The Hager farm was sold back in the 1930's. It is on Deer Run Road, about 4 miles from Brazito, Missouri. Township 42, Range 12, Section 5.
