From the Monitor Review, March 18, 1976:

Bert Godfredsen was born in Denmark on December 14, 1895, to Peder and Marie Godfredsen. After many years of suffering with emphysema, he passed away March 6, 1976.

Bert was one of a family of 12; 7 children born in Denmark and 5 born in America. After having lived in Tyler, Minnesota for a number of years, the Godfredsens homesteaded on the prairies of Montana - 8 miles from North Dakota and 30 miles from Canada at Dagmar, Montana.

There are now only 5 of the original Peder Godfresen family left: Fred Godfredsen, London, Minn.; Ellen Jensen, Minneapolis, Minn., Svend Godfredsen, Hendersenville, Tenn., Dagmar Simonsen, Stuart, Florida, Val Eve, Orlando, Florida; also many nieces and nephews.

Bert was a farmer in Montana for a good number of years, after which he moved to Austin, Minnesota where he worked at the Hormel Plant and later in a garage.

In 1926 he married Lizzie Sathre from the Adams area. They lived in Austin until 1938, when they moved to Grand Meadow where Bert had opened an implement shop. In January, 1942 they moved to a farm one mile north of Adams where they resided until moving to Mesa, Arizona in 1959. Lizzie passed away October 2, 1965 after a lingering illness.

After a lonely year and a half, Bert married Esther Fredrickson, who gave him the greatest gift of all, herself, four step-children and their spouses, plus 15 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren and they all loved Bert as he did them. All the stepchildren and their spouses are here today, as well as some of the grandchildren.

Blessed be his memory.

Funeral services for Bert Godfredsen were held at Little Cedar Church in Adams, Minnesota on Thursday, March 11, 1976. Interment was at Little Cedar Cemetery.

Services were conducted by Rev. Wayne Quibell. He and his wife sang two selections. Mrs. David Anderson was organist. Pallbearers were Earl, Selmer, Erlin and Roger Weness, Jens Block and Carl Shutt.

There were friends and relatives from Arizona, Massachusetts, Florida, Illinois, Michigan, Iowa and many towns in Minnesota who attended.
