The Reverend Joseph Morrow Sherman died Saturday, July 31, 2004 at 4:12 a.m.

Joe was born Oct. 7, 1940 in New York City.

He will be fondly remembered by all. He attended Hendrix College, John Brown University and the University of
Arkansas, where he graduated with a degree in Speech and Drama. He started seminary in Kansas City, Missouri
and later graduated with a Masters of Theology at Memphis Theological Seminary in Memphis, Tenn.

He served at Sulpher Springs, Elm Springs and Harmon, Camp Creek and Cummings, Kansas, Pea Ridge and Oakley
Chapel, Joiner and Turrell, Weiner and Fisher, Nettleton, Clinton, Culpepper, Scotland and Cleveland, Prairie Grove
and Viney Grove, and Eureka Springs.

He often took on little churches that didn't have a pastor and would rotate preaching on alternate Sundays, on top of
his usual two charges. This is just a tiny glimpse into the kind of man he was.

Joe loved and shared with everyone he met and was one of the most unpretentious human beings you could ever
know. True and genuine caring was the trademark of this man. If you really knew him, you knew this.

He saw beyond all religious and denominational boundaries to the human spirit within.

Joe loved to walk and go get a cupâ and was known in coffee shops, malls, tracks and trails all over Arkansas.

So many lives were touched by this man and almost everyone he knew had a Joe Sherman story to tell.

Joe is survived by his wife Penny Sherman, children Wesley Sherman, and daughter-in-law Sandra; Tim Sherman
and daughter-in-law Melissa; Steve Sherman, Houston O'Hara, and Tara O'Hara, niece Melissa Thurman, grandson
Grant and expected grandchild in November.

Visitation was held at the First United Methodist Church of Eureka Springs on Highway 23 East, Aug. 3, 2004.

The Memorial Service was held at the church on Wednesday, August 4.

Following the graveside service, there was a reception at First Christian Church on Passion Play Road.

Memorials for the family should be made to the First United Methodist Church, 195 Huntsville Road, Eureka
Springs, AR72632. Please reference Joe Sherman Memorial Fund.
