Donna Jean (Bailey) Fude was born on Thursday; September 4, 1919 at Fenton; Kossuth County, Iowa to Frank and Mary Elizabeth Caroline (Newel) Bailey. Donna lived her youth in Fenton and was the valedictorian of her 1936 Fenton High School graduating class. She was united in marriage to Harold Leland Fude on Tuesday; November 28, 1939 and this union was blessed with five children; Margaret, Donna, Raymond, Ronald and Roger. A lifelong resident of northwest Iowa, Donna lived in the Emmetsburg; Palo Alto County, Iowa. Graettinger; Palo Alto County, Iowa and Webb; Clay County, Iowa communities during her lifetime.
In addition to being a busy housewife and mother, Donna was also employed at Superior Manufacturing Company in Albert City; Buena Vista County, Iowa; Hydraulic Manufacturing Company in Laurens; Pocahontas County, Iowa and Eaton Corporation in Spencer; Clay County, Iowa. Following Harold's death in 1997, Donna resided at Riverview Terrace in Spencer, Iowa from 1999 until 2002, when she moved to the Countryside Senior Living Center in Sioux City; Woodbury County, Iowa. Donna was a longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sioux Rapids; Buena Vista County, Iowa. She was devoted to her family, extended family, and friends, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an avid sports fan who followed both the Hawkeye and Cyclone teams. Other interests included her beloved cats and her crossword puzzles. She had a wonderful sense of humor and a generous nature. She was always ready to share a smile, along with her pickles and party mix, with her friends and relatives. Donna Jean (Bailey) Fude, 87, passed away Sunday; December 24, 2006 at Countryside Senior Living Center in Sioux City, Iowa. Those left to mourn her passing are her children; Margaret Crow of Cushing; Woodbury County, Iowa. Donna and Bryce Wellnitz of Lincoln; Lancaster County, Nebraska. Ray and Karen Fude of Waukegan; Lake County, Illinois. Ronald and Elizabeth Fude of Blair; Washington County, Nebraska; and Roger Fude of Spencer Iowa; former daughter-in-law, Denice Fude of Spencer, Iowa. Thirteen grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; other relatives and a host of many friends.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold; her son-in-law, James Crow, and her eleven siblings. Visitation will be held at the church beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday; December 30, 2006 for one hour prior to the start of services. Funeral services for Mrs. Fude will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday; December 30, 2006 at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Sioux Rapids, with Father Al Reicks officiating at the Mass for Christian Burial. Burial will be in Garfield Township Cemetery at Webb; Clay County, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any memorials in Donna's honor be sent in care of the family to: Box 173, Cushing, Iowa 51058. The family will share these memorials among various organizations that held a special place in Donna's life.
