Edwin L. Bolton, 53, former Adams resident, died in Minneapolis Wednesday following a heart attack. Bolton was the son of Dr. and Mrs. R. L. Bolton of Adams.

Funeral services were held Saturday morning in Minneapolis with the Committal Services held at Little Cedar Lutheran Cemetery at Adams at 2 p.m. Dr. Frederick Bolton, brother of the deceased, officiated at the Committal Services.

Edwin L. Bolton, 53, who was city editor of the Winona Daily News from 1942 to 1947, died in Minneapolis Wednesday after a heart attack. The newspaper then was known as the Republican-Herald.

He was active in sports here, coaching football and baseball youth leagues and umpiring in both sports.

Bolton left Winona to join the staff of the Minneapolis Star. There he had been copy editor, assistant news editor and a part-time critic before being names to succeed the late John Sherman as books and arts editor in June 1969.

He was born in Tomah, Wis., and moved to Adams, Minn., with his parents.

He attended Lawrence College in Appleton, Wis., and was a graduate of the University of Minnesota school of journalism. Following his graduation he worked on the Marshall, (Minn.) Messenger before coming here.

Besides his wife and parents, he is survived by three children by a prior marriage.

Private funeral services will be held.

Longtime theatre and music critic for the Minneapolis Star, Bolton joined the Star staff in 1947. In addition, he served as chairman and a director of the Minneapolis unit of the Newspaper Guild. He died of a heart attack while attending an opening at the Chanhassen Dinner Theatre.
