On September 3, 1919, in Lyle, Minnesota, he married Adella Cornelia Sampson. Oscar farmed the farm his father farmed north of Adams, Minnesota. He served on the Adams School Board, various church boards, and the Adams Creamery Board. Oscar died December 28, 1983.

Oscar M. Bergene, age 90, a retired farmer and lifelong resident of rural Adams, died December 28, 1983 at the Adams Health Care Center.

Mr. Bergene was born February 8, 1893 in Marshall township, Mower County, He served in France and Germany from 1917 until his discharge in April 1919. He married Adella Sampson on September 3, 1919, at Lyle and the couple farmed in rural Adams.

He was a member of the Adams American Legion Post, and had served on the Adams School Board, various church boards and the Adams Creamery Board.

Survivors include his wife, Adella; two sons, Virgil and Ward of Adams; a daughter, Mrs. Conrad (Jane) Sletta of Mankato; 14 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; a brother, Orville of Adams; a sister, Mrs. Elmer (Ella) Schwerin of Elkton.

Funeral services were held December 31, 1983 at Little Cedar Lutheran Church with Rev. Allen Gunderson officiating. Pallbearers were James Bergene, Meritt Bergen, Elmer John Schwerin, Russell Sampson, Larimer Nelson and Frederick Langrock.
