John Dill Hulme

John Dill Hulme, 83, of Washington, formerly of Olds, died at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2004, at Halcyon House in Washington.

Born Jan. 13, 1921, in Henry County, he was the son of Samuel S. and Verna Eicher Hulme. On Dec. 26, 1940, he married Frances R. Wittrig in Wayland. She died in November 1991.

Mr. Hulme farmed southeast of Wayland for many years before beginning his career as a livestock feed and seed salesman. He moved to Olds in 1964, after which he spent his remaining working years before retirement at Blue Bird Manufacturing in Mount Pleasant.

He was a member of Fern Cliff Evangelical Free Church in Wayland, where he served many years as an adult Sunday school teacher. He also was a member of the Olds Lions Club and a lifetime member of Gideons International.

Survivors include three daughters, Joan Swift of Rolling Meadows, Ill., Jalaine Sandberg of Rockford, Ill., and Judy Campbell of Mount Pleasant; one son, Hiram Howard Hulme of Rockford; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Ruth Seberg of Iowa City; and one brother, Richard E. Hulme of Florida.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by one daughter and one grandson.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel in Mount Pleasant, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Hulme will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Memorial Chapel, with Pastor Charles Visser officiating. Burial will be in Finley Cemetery.

Memorials have been established for Fern Cliff Evangelical Free Church and Gideons International.
