Gilbert (Gulbrand) A. Anderson was born and grew up on the Aaberg farm in Nord Aurdal municipality of Oppland county, Valders District or region of Norway, on May 27, 1828. His parents were Anders Gulbrandsen Aaberg and Siri Knudsdatter. He immigrated from Nordre Aurdal in 1849, when he was 21 years old. He farmed near Arendahl, Minnesota.


Gilbert and Anna moved to Adams from north of Grand Meadow around 1870. Siri Maria Anderson was born Feb 19, 1865 and baptized at the Bear Creek Lutheran Church north of Grand Meadow. They lived near the town of Adams. Gilbert died July 27, 1873. He was 45 years old. Anna died November 14, 1875. She was 51 years old. They are buried in the Little Cedar Cemetery in Adams, MN.


When Gilbert and Anna died, they had young children. According to the 1880 census, Peter and Andrew were living in Lincoln County, SD (near Brookings). Gilbert was living with the Lars Knutson family. Tina was living with the Nels Helgeson family and Anna was living with the Ole H. Johnson Holstad family.

(1) Andrew G. (6/3/1854-); confirmed at Little Cedar in 1870; 1880 census-living in Brookings County, SD. Andrew married Anna Marie Johnson. They had children, Seymour, George and Rosella. They lived in Campbell County but eventually moved to Park River, ND.


(2) Martin G.(5/13/1858-1928), Martin helped to build the Norway Lutheran Church. Served in the South Dakota Legislature from 1905-1906. He was a cowboy and looking for land, he went to Canada, where he filed on land and ranched and farmed. He married Lizzie Krogh and they had children - Elma, Adolph, Glen, Leonard, Mabel, Earl, Francis and Walter.

(4) Andreas G. (8/27/1862?)


(5) Anne (2/7/1871; church records: Anna - born 7/8/1871 (living with the Ole H. Johnson Holstad family in the 1880 census). Baptismal sponsors were Ole Johnson, Kari Olds., Oline Olds.


Knute, Simon, Sarah and Anna were never married. Anna did have children with Hans Hanson - a son, Palmer (Anderson) Gullickson and a daughter, Clarasa.

In 2014, the family of Gulbrand and Anna replaced the old, broken stone with the new stone pictured. One side is in English, one in Norwegian and the part on the ground lists the children. The old stone was buried under the new stone. The picture of the old stone can be seen when viewing all pictures on this memorial page.
