The U.S. Defense Department has announced the death of three American soldiers in Jordan during Operation Inherent Resolve.

Staff Sgt. James Moriarty from Kerrville, Texas, Staff Sgt. Matthew C. Lewellen, 27, of Lawrence, Kansas and Staff Sgt. Kevin J. McEnroe, 30, of Tucson, Arizona were killed Friday.

All three men were Green Berets.
Officials said the men died when their convoy came under fire while entering a Jordanian military base.
The incident remains under investigation.
The men were assigned to the 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne) at Fort Campbell, Kentucky.
Operation Inherent Resolve started in 2014 to fight ISIS.

We mourn the loss of our son, brother and soldier, Staff Sergeant James "Jimmy" Francis Moriarty, 27, who was killed while on active duty in Jordan on November 4th. Anyone who met him would agree that he was one of the most kind, warm, and brilliant people they ever had the pleasure to know. He was a proud member of the U.S. Army 5th Special Forces Group of Fort Campbell, Kentucky. He enlisted in the US Army on September 13th, 2011. He attended Special Forces Assessment and Selection in May of 2012 and was selected to attend the Special Forces Qualification Course. He graduated in December of 2013 as a Special Forces Weapons Sergeant. Upon graduation, he was assigned to 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne) at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. He has deployed three times to the Central Command Area of Responsibility in support of contingency operations. A Houston native, Jimmy attended Strake Jesuit College Preparatory and then the University of Texas where he received a B.A. in Economics and was a member of the Sigma Epsilon fraternity. He is survived by his parents and his sisters.
Funeral services will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia.
