Louis Francis Gardner

After a long illness, Louis Francis Gardner went into the arms of our Lord and Savior on October 29, 2016. Louis was born in Ventura, California but was raised in San Diego, Long Beach, Santa Barbara, San Mateo, Burlingame, Vallejo, and Napa Valley, Ca.

He joined the U.S. Army Air Force in 1947. He spent 21 years in the service and retired as a Master Sergeant. His specialties while in the service were a Jet Mechanic, Armament Specialist, Air Borne Communications Technician, and Communication Center Supervisor. After his retirement from the Air Force, he joined McDonnell-Douglas Aircraft Co. He worked on the Manned Orbiting Laboratory, Sky Lab, and the Apollo Moon Explorations.

He later went on to work for the Orange County Fire Dept in 1970, and stayed for five years before moving to Daytona Beach where he attended DBCC and earned an AA degree in Liberal Arts, and an AS in Computer Science. He went to work for the City of Daytona Beach Finance Dept. upon graduation from college. He retired as a Water Service Supervisor in 1990.

Louis along with his wife, Eileen pursued their interests and hobbies of fishing, boating, motorcycle riding, home and garden projects, traveling, and spending time with their children and grandchildren. Louis came out of retirement once again and accepted a job at First Data in 1999 where he earned several Bronze, Silver and even a Gold award in 2007. He worked there until it closed in June of 2008. Louis and Eileen are active members of the Basilica of Saint Paul were they renewed their marriage vows in April of this year.

Louis is survived by his loving wife, Eileen (Lolly) Gardner, and eight children: Steven Gardner, Leslie Nichols, Craig Gardner, Yvonne McDaniels, James Kaylor (diseased) Christine Carey, Eileen Douglas, and George Kaylor, 58 grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren including his special fishing buddy Robinski. He will be missed by his friends, especially Andrew Blow, Troy and Dawn Staton and their son Noah, and his Alaskan buddy Lew Lowery. Many thanks and blessings to Dr. Steven White and staff, his special angel Virginia at Dr. Wongs office and to all of the Halifax Health Hospice who gave us wonderful care and support.

After a small family gathering, Louis will be laid to rest at Woodland Cemetery in Port Orange. Baldwin Brothers Funeral Home has made all the arraignments and helped us through this difficult time.
