PFC James Arthur Ashcraft, Vietnam Veteran, Native of Moore County, Mineral Springs, NC, he later became a native of Hamlet NC.

PFC James Arthur Ashcraft was a member of the Army. PFC Ashcraft served our country until December 28th, 1966 in South Vietnam. He was 19 years old and was not married. It was reported that James died from an undetermined explosion. PFC Ashcraft is on panel 13E, line 088 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. He served our country for one year.

For some reason I thought I would take a tour of the Vietnam Wall. You gave your life for our country at such a young age. I will always remember you James. Cynthia Taylor. We were high school classmates.

I trained with James at two different locations before we got orders to VN. There were six of us who were to go together, but James got leave to go home. We shipped out around the 20th of May 1966. James came later and went to a different Unit. I never saw him again. We had a short friendship, but I have never forgot him. Clyde Adams, Poplar Neck Rd, Edenton,NC. 27932.

He was the son of Mr and Mrs Arthur Ashcraft, 309 Pine Street, Hamlet, NC.

He served with Alpha Company, 39th Engineer Battalion, 45th Engineer Group, 18th Engineer Brigade, USARV.

He was awarded The Purple Heart Medal for his combat related wounds, The Vietnam Service Medal, The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Service Medal, The National Defense Service Medal and The Good Conduct Medal.
