Cpl. Donica of Spring, Texas, grew up in Houston and graduated from Klein High School in 2002. Known as, "Double D," to his friends, he was the typical middle class teenager of his generation. He preferred soccer over football and spent what appeared to be every spare moment playing video games. When he left the University of Texas at Austin to enlist in the Army in 2003, he told his parents he had lived a privileged life growing up in Spring, and that meant something different to him than it did to others. Dustin joined the Army in December 2003 while he was attending the University of Texas. Dustin was the 3000th soldier killed during the War. He died at age 22 in Baghdad of wounds received from small arms fire while conducting combat operations.
