Anthony D. Masi, 68, of Franklin, passed away peacefully, Sunday October 9, 2016 at the UMASS Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, following an illness. He was the beloved husband of Marilyn A. (Dangelo) Masi.


Born November 26, 1947 in Milford, the only son of Antonio RJ and Theresa (Niro) Masi, he was a lifelong Franklin resident. He was raised and educated in Franklin, was a 1966 graduate of Franklin High School, where he played on the football team.


Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He served his country proudly, as part of the 2nd Platoon C Troop 3rdSquadron and was awarded the BRONZE STAR Medal with V/Device (2nd OLC) and the PURPLE HEART (2nd OLC) for bravery and wounds received in combat.


He received the Army Commendation Medal with V/Device (1st OLC) as part of the 4th Calvary 25thInfantry Division for maneuvering through a bullet swept area and aiding injured men. After treating the wounded and evacuating them to a safe location, he moved his tank (C27) to a strategic position and fired on the enemy. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant and was also awarded the Marksmanship Badge, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.


Anthony was honorably discharged in February 1970. After returning home he began a 36-year career at Avery Dennison Co. in Holliston. He enjoyed photography, watching the New England Patriots and was a former member of the Mansfield Rod & Gun Club.


In addition to his wife of 45 years, he is survived by 2 sons; Daniel Masi of Somerville and Eric Masi of Franklin, uncles Ralph Masi of Franklin, and Steve Barker of Baltimore, sister-in-law Marcia Mahoney of Wrentham, brothers-in-law, Steve Dangelo and his wife Sue of Franklin and Kenneth Dangelo and his wife Judy of New Hampshire. Also surviving a niece, Jennifer Dangelo, 2 nephews, Mark and William Dangelo and many cousins.


His Funeral Service with Military Honors at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, will be held privately.
