Rev. Richard Henderson A.M. was born June 7 1689 in Berwickshire, Scotland. He graduated from Glasgow University and became the Presbyterian minister at the Blantyre Old Parish Church in Scotland in 1722.

On August 2, 1727 at the age of 38, Rev. Henderson married Janet Cleland in Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland. Together, they had three children: Archibald (1732-), Richard (1736-1802), and Alexander (1738-1815).

Rev. Henderson was the Presbyterian Minister at Blantyre Parish from 1722 until 1769 (the longest tending minister, 47 years, at the Parish).

He died on December 12, 1769 (in his eightieth year) and is buried in the Kirk Yard beside the Blantyre Old Parish Church.
