Sp4 Louis Elton Armstead, Vietnam Veteran, Native of Edenton, North Carolina.

As a member of the Army, SP4 Armstead served our country until November 1st, 1967 in Log An, South Vietnam. He was 21 years old and was not married. Louis died when his helicopter crashed. While on a night resupply mission, the sling load hit the ground causing the pilot to turn on the landing light. This revealed the Aircraft was about to hit a tree. The aircraft hit a tree causing it to crash and burn. His body was recovered. SP4 Armstead is on panel 28E, line 107 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. He served our country for less than a year.

He was killed in action from an incident while performing the duty of Door Gunner. His Unit was the 213 ASHC. He was an 11B20 Infantryman.

Luie took my flight that night. Had he not, I would have died. He did it out of simple friendship. I've remembered that throughout my life, and tried to do the best with it that I could. Thank you Armstead. Tim Murphy.
