Ogden, William "Bill"

William (Bill) Silas Sharples Ogden, born June 12, 1938, joined his Heavenly Father on December 15, 2015, in Carrollton, Texas following a short illness.

Bill was the only child of William Silas Sharples Ogden and Elizabeth (Luddy) Ogden, and devoted husband to Suzanne Marie (Moody) Ogden. He was born in Fall River, Massachusetts, and despite having lived in north Texas since 1972 he never lost his Yankee accent. He still “pahked his cah in Hahvahd Yahd,” which was a delight to everyone who conversed with him.

He was predeceased by his parents and an infant son, William S.S. Ogden III.

Bill is survived by his wife of 52 years, Suzanne; father-in-law Stanley Moody, sisters-in-law Sheryl Briggs, Kathy (Ron) Albert, Jo-Anne (Edward) Motteram and Peggy (Ron) Holt, as well as brothers-in-law Vincent (Joyce) Moody, William (Tina) Moody, James Moody and Timothy Moody. He was a devoted and generous uncle to David Slaughter and Rebecca (Slaughter) Friedman, as well as 15 other nieces and nephews, and was great-uncle to Katherine Walker, William Ogden Slaughter, Ellen Jeanne Slaughter from the Dallas area and 19 others scattered hither and yon.

Although he grew up an only child, Bill gained 4 brothers and 4 sisters when he married Suzanne. He often joked about waking up on the couch in the Moody living room with one of the little ones sitting on his chest saying, “Booie Ogden is here!”

Bill received a Bachelor of Science degree from Bradford Durfee College of Technology in Fall River, MA in 1961. He was in the Army Reserves and was called to active duty during the Cuban Missile Crisis, and served at Fort Bragg, NC. He and Suzanne were married on August 31, 1963. He was employed for many years by Nuclear Medical Labs in Dallas as a nuclear chemist, and went on to receive a Master’s Degree in Library Science from UT Arlington, where he was later employed.

Bill was an avid reader of history and science fiction and enjoyed cooking, travel, and research. He was quite an adventurous diner and enjoyed trying new restaurants with his niece. An avid Teutonophile (lover of all things German), he also enjoyed a good German beer from time to time.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Aria Funeral Home, 19310 Preston Road, Dallas, Texas.

He is sorely missed by his family and scores of friends.
